SCY Delegation visit to Port-Vendres - September 1-3, 2023. At the invitation of the Mayor of Port-Vendres (PV), France, SCY President Don Willis, his wife Belinda, and Royce and Darlene Hart, former York County School Division education leaders, visited PV to celebrate their 200th anniversary. While there, on the tall ship Belem, Mr. Willis presented Mayor Marty with a York County flag, Yorktown baseball cap, and a collage of pictures of locations in York County dedicated to the vital French assistance in the revolutionary war (thanks to Jim Stoecker, YHS teacher, for putting that picture together).

​

It was a great trip that allowed Sister Cities Yorktown to renew old friendships and to make new friends. Mayor Marty gifted a book on PV's history for the York County Board of Supervisors, a small replica of a French fire hat that was given to the York County Fire Chief,  and a uniform patch from the Police Municipal that was given to the York County Sheriff’s Department.

Breakfast - August 25, 2022, Riverwalk Restaurant. SCY hosted a free breakfast event at Riverwalk Restaurant in Yorktown.   Brigadier General John Kline, Commanding General from Joint Base Langley – Eustis spoke on “The Value of International Relationships.”

Bastille Day - July 14, 2022, Hornsby House, with Bridget Goeke from WineBow wine distributors.  Attendees tasted 5 different wines paired with foods that complemented the wines.  All wines were from the Languedoc – Roussillon Region near our sister city in Port-Vendres.

Student Exchange to France - September 30-October 8, 2012. Eleven York County French students visit Port-Vendres, France, and nearby Ceret to take classes in the French lycee, stay with French families, and tour area sites. First Quintilla Medal presented to Antoinette Quintilla at the City Hall in Port-Vendres.

 

Language classes - monthly September-April.
